Spring Gallop April 2016

Spring Gallop April 2016

It was a lovely Thursday morning when 6 cars and 12 people turned up at Bar Restaurante “El Cortijo” for coffee before heading off on our drive to Mojacar. John & Sally-Anne Epsome would join us en route.

As Johnny was unable to attend because of illness in the family, Dennis accepted the challenge of leading the drive.

A nice steady trip until Venta del Empalme where we were having a coffee stop. All went in the right direction except the writer of this missive, who`s rookie co-pilot took us the wrong way and because of inexperience, we drove up and down the motorway trying to find the correct exit for the stop.

Brian Rae`s Ford Mustang decided it didn`t want to play and went on strike so he and Trish waited for the grua to take them home and joined us at the hotel later. In the meantime , the road we wanted was moved so we made our own route to the Hotel.

As usual, we were made welcome and the rooms, staff and food were excellent. Next day, Friday, was a free day so we took the bus up to Mojacar Pueblo for a few hours and shopped and shopped. The bus drivers are something between formula 1 drivers and Wacky races so we thought ourselves lucky to come back in one piece. Saturday was a trip to Mini Hollywood near Tabernas, where some famous films had been shot, including “Fist full of Dollars” and parts of “Lawrence of Arabia”. On arrival it turned out there was a “show” so we watched the Cowboys – no Indians then went into the Saloon for refreshments. There was also a zoo to look round so we spent a very pleasant two and a half hours there On departure, it was decided that we would all make our own way back to the Hotel with refreshments on the way.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and Pete & Yvonne Dickson led us all on a wonderful, scenic drive along the coast on the way back, mostly on the N-332, with a stop in a beautiful bay for lunch, and we all peeled off when required to our different destinations.

A lovely weekend with lovely people in great surroundings. Looking forward to the next one.
